Lake Union is the name of a lake in Seattle and the neighborhood that surrounds it.
The lake is joined to Lake Washington via the Lake Washington Ship Canal and Puget Sound via the Fremont Cut. It is a freshwater lake with some brackishness introduced by the connection to the sound.
The neighborhood, also known as the Cascade, is known for its many houseboats. Relatively upscale it lies between the rich neighborhoods of Queen Anne Hill, the club dominated Capitol Hill, and, toward the south, the slums of Central District.
